Tara Assistant is a self-hosted service that observes your Home Assistant events to detect recurring patterns in your smart home usage. When it finds consistent routines — like lights turning on at sunset or doors locking at night — it drafts Home Assistant automations in plain YAML and presents them for your approval before applying them. It runs locally as a Docker container, stores data on your own volume, and encrypts credentials. Optional LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Ollama) can handle complex natural language commands, while simple intents execute directly via Home Assistant services. A safety layer classifies actions and requests confirmation for sensitive operations like locking doors. Home Assistant remains the control plane; Tara only suggests automations you can inspect, edit, version, and delete. The project is early-stage with conservative pattern detection and a browser-based setup wizard.

taraassistant-public README
Most smart homes are programmable toasters in trench coats. You poke them, you script them, you pray the indentation gods hear you. Tara attempts something different. It watches how you live, finds the patterns you forgot to articulate, and turns those into Home Assistant automations you can actually inspect, edit, and own.
Tara does not guess. It observes. When behavior becomes structure, Tara drafts an automation, hands it to you in YAML, and waits for your blessing. No charts. No voice syntax manuals. No devops cosplay. You just live and the house takes notes.
