ghcr.io/tracefinity/tracefinityWhat is Tracefinity?
Tracefinity is a self-hosted web application that creates custom gridfinity storage bins from photos of tools. Users place tools on standard paper sizes, photograph them, and AI traces tool outlines automatically using local models (IS-Net, BiRefNet Lite, InSPyReNet) or cloud APIs (Google Gemini, Replicate, fal.ai). Traced tools are saved to a library, organized into projects, and arranged in a bin editor with snap-to-grid layout. Features include finger holes, interior rings for hollow tools, cutout clearance and chamfer, contrast inserts for multi-color printing, text labels, live 3D preview, and automatic bed splitting for large bins. Exports include STL, 3MF (multi-color), and SVG. The application runs in a single Docker container with data in one volume, works on both AMD64 and ARM64 architectures, and requires at least 2GB RAM for the default IS-Net model. Authentication is built-in with 2FA support, and an optional Ollama or OpenRouter integration can auto-name tools.
Should you self-host Tracefinity?
Tracefinity scores 51/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #12 of 22 in 3D Printing. It has 721 GitHub stars.
It shipped 10 stable releases in the past year. The latest, 0.10.1, came out on 24 October 2026. New versions land roughly every 10 days.
Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is MIT-licensed and written mostly in Python.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is Octoprint (73/100, 9 167 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See Tracefinity vs Octoprint side by side.
