What is shabitica?
Shabitica is a fork of the Habitica habit-tracking RPG that you run on your own infrastructure. It strips out payment providers, analytics, social integrations, and other external services, replacing them with local alternatives like a custom sendmail-based mailer daemon. The software runs sandboxed in a Linux network namespace with only loopback access, uses MongoDB via Unix domain sockets, and defaults to invite-only registration. All premium features are unlocked for every user since payment systems are removed. The primary deployment target is NixOS, where it installs as a system module via Hydra channels; it can also run on other Linux distributions that have Nix installed. There is no support for the official Habitica mobile apps.
