What is Resonus?

Resonus is an open-source music player application for Android with experimental iOS support. It connects to self-hosted music servers including Navidrome, OpenSubsonic, Jellyfin, and Ampache, and can also play local files directly on the device. The app provides offline access with automatic switching, downloads in original or transcoded quality, synchronized lyrics with word-level highlighting using TTML or enhanced LRC formats, internet radio, and casting to UPnP/DLNA renderers and Sonos speakers with room grouping. Playback capabilities include gapless playback, crossfade, a built-in equalizer, ReplayGain normalization, variable playback speed, sleep timer, and background controls. Additional features include autoplay with similar tracks, mix generation, batch operations for queues and playlists, starred items, pinned content, play history, customizable themes (dark, light, system, scheduled), extensive UI personalization, experimental Android Auto support, landscape and tablet layouts, cross-device queue synchronization, and translations in 13 languages. Distribution is via APK/IPA files from GitHub releases, Obtainium for Android, and AltSource for iOS sideloading.

FAQ

How do I get lyrics that light up word by word?

Use TTML files or enhanced LRC files with word-level timestamps placed next to the song file. Navidrome 0.63+ and Jellyfin support this; downloaded songs keep word timings for offline use.

How do I install Resonus on iOS?

Resonus on iOS is provided as an unsigned .ipa file that must be sideloaded using SideStore, AltStore, or by adding the Resonus repository as an AltSource.

How do I get Resonus to show up in Android Auto?

Enable developer settings in Android Auto by tapping Version ~10 times, then turn on Unknown sources in Developer settings. Resonus will then appear in the car's app list.
