ghcr.io/tautvydasderzinskas/thingport-backendWhat is Thingport?
This application runs on your own server and collects 3D printing models from ten major platforms. It stores every file, photo, and source link locally so nothing disappears when the original site changes. The browser interface renders common 3D formats interactively, including per-plate thumbnails for multi-plate projects. You can organize with unlimited hierarchical categories, grouped collections, tags, favourites, and a searchable history. Synced collections pull in new items from linked external collections automatically. Optional AI sorts models into your categories and rewrites descriptions using a local Ollama model or cloud APIs, with manual approval for each change. Multiple accounts work with open or invite-only sign-up, email verification, and any OpenID Connect provider for single sign-on. An admin panel shows system health, manages users, toggles providers, configures storage layout, and sets up AI models. Files stay as ordinary files in a directory structure you define. A browser extension adds one-click import buttons on source sites, and a desktop helper opens files in Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura, and other slicers. Deployment uses pre-built container images via Docker Compose, with dedicated guides for Unraid, TrueNAS SCALE, and CasaOS. The code is licensed AGPL-3.0.
Should you self-host Thingport?
Thingport scores 49/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #14 of 22 in 3D Printing. It has 231 GitHub stars.
It shipped 10 stable releases in the past year. The latest, extension-latest, came out on 25 October 2026.
Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is AGPL-3.0-licensed and written mostly in Typescript.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is Octoprint (73/100, 9 166 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See Thingport vs Octoprint side by side.
