What is Stepifi?

Stepifi runs on your own hardware and turns STL or 3MF mesh files into STEP solids so they can be edited in CAD programs such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or FreeCAD. The web interface lets you drag and drop files, preview them in 3D with Three.js, and tweak the mesh-repair tolerance before conversion. A BullMQ queue handles batch jobs and shows progress on a dashboard; finished files auto-delete after 24 hours. The stack is a Node.js/Express server, FreeCAD 0.21.2 running headless, and Redis for the queue, all orchestrated by Docker Compose. No built-in authentication exists — the docs advise putting it behind an authenticated reverse proxy for public access. The code is offered under a custom non-commercial license that permits personal and educational use only.

Should you self-host Stepifi?

Stepifi scores 41/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #20 of 22 in 3D Printing. It has 247 GitHub stars.

It shipped 2 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v2.0.0, came out on 31 December 2025. New versions land roughly every 3 weeks.
