ghcr.io/skrun-dev/skrun-runtimeWhat is skrun?
Skrun is an open-source runtime that lets you turn any AI agent skill into a callable HTTP endpoint. You define the agent using the Agent Skills format (SKILL.md) or AGENTS.md, add a YAML config for the model and tools, then deploy with a single command. The system supports six major LLM providers plus any OpenAI-compatible service, with automatic failover between them. It handles tool execution through local scripts and MCP servers, maintains persistent state across invocations, and streams results in real time via Server-Sent Events. A web dashboard gives you visibility into runs, costs, and agent versions. Authentication works through GitHub OAuth or API keys with isolated namespaces. Storage uses SQLite by default or PostgreSQL for production. The project is MIT licensed and the current release is v1.2.1.
Should you self-host skrun?
skrun scores 49/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #104 of 209 in AI Agents. It has 210 GitHub stars.
It shipped 12 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v1.2.1, came out on 23 September 2026. New versions land roughly every 9 days.
Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is MIT-licensed and written mostly in Typescript.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is Orca (91/100, 108 642 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See skrun vs Orca side by side.
