What is Ouroboros?
This open-source AI agent runs on your own machine and maintains a continuous identity with durable memory across tasks and restarts. It can work on external projects, coordinate a swarm of specialist sub-agents, and autonomously modify its own implementation — including its codebase, architecture, prompts, tools, and dependencies. Available as a native desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux, plus a headless CLI, with a web interface on port 8765. Model inference supports remote APIs like OpenRouter, OpenAI, and Anthropic, as well as local GGUF models. Desktop bundles include CPython 3.10 and SQLite, so no separate Python installation is needed. Optional integrations connect to Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor subscriptions through the bundled Claudexor execution layer. Extensions like skills, transport bridges, widgets, and MCP tools are distributed via the OuroborosHub marketplace. Released under the MIT license with frequent updates.
