What is kriss_feed?

KrISS feed is a simple, self-hosted RSS/Atom feed reader written in PHP. It requires no SQL database, storing all data in flat files within a data directory, and works with PHP 5.2 or newer. Installation is as simple as uploading a single index.php file to any PHP-enabled web server and setting a login and password. Features include OPML import/export, starred items, list and expanded views, keyboard shortcuts, auto-mark-as-read, feed favicons, public/protected/private visibility modes, manual/JavaScript/cron updates, and internationalization. The UI is responsive for mobile use and fully usable without JavaScript. Themes can be added by dropping a user.css file into the inc directory, and version 8 added a plugin system. It integrates with Shaarli for sharing articles. The project has been actively maintained since 2012 with the latest version 8.26.

FAQ

How is KrISS feed organized for developers?

Source code is in the src directory with class/ for PHP classes, tpl/ for templates, inc/ for includes, and a generateIndex script to compile the single-file index.php.

How to stay signed in?

Create plugins and sessions directories, then create a session.php file in plugins with session.gc_maxlifetime and session.save_path settings to extend session lifetime to 1 day (86400 seconds).

How to reset KrISS feed password?

You cannot reset the password; if forgotten, delete the data/config.php file and reload the page to set a new login and password.

Does it work on free.fr?

No, external accesses have been disabled on free.fr since December 1, 2008.

Why can I not add or update my feeds properly?

Check your feed validity at validator.w3.org/feed/ — KrISS feed uses libxml2 and will fail if the feed is not well-formed. Contact the feed owner to correct their feed.

What is KISS philosophy?

KrISS feed follows the KISS principle (Keep It Simple and Smart) — accessible to everyone with no SQL database to configure and a single file to copy, while keeping the source code easy to understand and well structured.

Why did I create KrISS feed?

The creator was using Google Reader and was unhappy when Google integrated Google+; existing alternatives like rssLounge and Tiny Tiny RSS didn't meet their needs, so they built their own.
