What is crabwalk?

Crabwalk is a companion monitor for OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot) AI agents, aimed at people who run those agents themselves and want to see what they are doing. Instead of scrolling chat logs, you get a live node graph of each agent session: reasoning steps, tool invocations and reply chains appear as they happen, over a WebSocket link to the gateway, for agents working on WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord and Slack. Nodes open up to reveal the arguments and payloads behind every action, sessions can be narrowed by platform or looked up by recipient, and a workspace view browses, previews and edits the agent's files (added in v1.0.11). Self-hosting is a single small web server: an image at ghcr.io/luccast/crabwalk with a ready compose file, or a CLI binary from GitHub releases that finds your gateway token in ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json, can run as a background daemon, prints a QR code for phone access and updates itself. It needs a reachable OpenClaw gateway (default ws://127.0.0.1:18789) and Node.js 20+ when running from source; the UI itself has no login.

Should you self-host crabwalk?

crabwalk scores 48/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #67 of 104 in Monitoring & observability. It has 874 GitHub stars.

It shipped 10 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v1.0.11, came out on 5 February 2026.

Setup is easy: most people get it running in one sitting. An official Docker image is available. It is MIT-licensed and written mostly in Typescript.

Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is grafana (90/100, 77 569 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See crabwalk vs grafana side by side.

How to install crabwalk

Install crabwalk with Docker

Requires OpenClaw gateway running on the same machine.
Environment variables
CLAWDBOT_API_TOKEN, CLAWDBOT_URL
docker run -d \
  -p 3000:3000 \
  -e CLAWDBOT_API_TOKEN=your-token \
  -e CLAWDBOT_URL=ws://host.docker.internal:18789 \
  -v ~/.openclaw/workspace:/root/.openclaw/workspace \
  ghcr.io/luccast/crabwalk:latest

The OpenClaw gateway typically runs on the host, so use host.docker.internal for the gateway URL; with host-networking needed if the gateway binds loopback only.
