What is Chinese Webfont Project?
Chinese Webfont Project (中文网字计划) is an open-source collection of free commercially-usable Chinese web fonts. It solves the challenge of large CJK character sets by using font splitting technology to break fonts into small static chunks that can be loaded on-demand via CDN. The project provides a web interface to browse fonts, get CSS links for direct use, and an online font splitter tool. Developers can add their own fonts by placing source files in the packages folder and running the build process, which automatically packages and groups fonts. The built fonts are deployed to ImageKit.io CDN with CORS enabled. The project also integrates Google Fonts lookup and provides NPM packages for build-time font optimization (cn-font-split, vite-plugin-font).
