What is Whiteboard?
Whiteboard is an MIT-licensed desktop canvas where a developer and their coding agent work through a change together. The agent connects over MCP, paints sequence and entity-relationship diagrams inside the app, and every diagram step, quote from its trace, or diff section can be opened down to the underlying code, with VS Code keybindings and language-server navigation. A semantic diff viewer written in Rust folds noisy changes: large added functions become pseudocode summaries and test or documentation edits collapse, and that behaviour is extensible through a WASM plugin system. Reviews also record which requirements a human set and which decisions the agent made, so trajectories can be audited; a follow-up Ask runs the connected agent against the open review. You install it as a .dmg, an .exe, a Homebrew cask or from a dnf/apt/pacman repository, and it works against local git checkouts, optionally driving a review server on a remote Linux machine over SSH. Usage analytics are collected unless you switch them off, and the share service plus hosted trace store are vendor-run, though traces can go to a bucket you own instead; a team-hosted product is only planned. File editing inside reviews is not possible yet, multi-repo reviews are weakly supported, and a shared review does not refresh after sharing.
Should you self-host Whiteboard?
