What is Plex-Data-Collector-For-InfluxDB?
Plex Data Collector For InfluxDB is a lightweight Python daemon that connects to one or more Plex Media Servers using the Plex API, gathers real-time streaming sessions, library counts (including TV show seasons and episodes), and recently added items, then pushes those metrics to an InfluxDB database. It is designed to run continuously on your own hardware — a server, NAS, or Raspberry Pi — with a configurable polling interval. The collected data can be visualized in Grafana to monitor who is watching what, track library growth, and observe transcoding activity. Configuration is done via a simple INI file covering Plex credentials, server addresses, InfluxDB connection details, and logging level. The project has no web UI of its own; it is a background collector that depends on a separate InfluxDB instance and a Plex account with access to the target servers. Development appears inactive since the last commit in January 2019, but the code remains functional for Python 3.x environments.
