What is openvox?
OpenVox is a community-driven fork of the Puppet configuration management system. It automates server administration tasks such as user creation, package installation, and configuration enforcement across Linux, Unix, and Windows machines using a declarative language. The software keeps compatibility with existing Puppet code, modules, and tools while supplying its own packaging and release process. A central OpenVox Server distributes configuration to agents running on managed nodes, with data persisted in OpenVoxDB (built on PostgreSQL). The suite also provides OpenBolt for agentless command execution over SSH or WinRM and OpenFact for gathering system inventory. Installation options include native OS packages (APT, YUM, Windows and macOS installers) or container images for the server and database components. Governance is handled by the Vox Pupuli collective and a Puppet Standards Steering Committee that guides language evolution.
