What is OpenAgentCore?
OpenAgentCore is an open-source, self-hosted implementation of the OpenAI Agents API. It allows developers to run AI coding agents — Codex, Claude Code, and MiniMax Code — on their own infrastructure with any compatible model provider, using the standard OpenAI SDK by simply setting OPENAI_BASE_URL. The system consists of a Core control plane (with PostgreSQL persistence), a Web console for administration, and a Runtime that executes agent sessions inside sandboxed environments. It supports multiple sandbox providers including microsandbox (with checkpoint/resume), E2B, Docker, and self-hosted sessions on bare metal or VMs. Workspaces persist independently of compute. The project is MIT-licensed and developed by MiniMax-AI. It is currently in pre-1.0 development (v0.0.12 stable, v0.0.13-rc.2 pre-release) with active development.
Should you self-host OpenAgentCore?
