gameap/gameapWhat is GameAP?
GameAP is a free, open-source control panel for hosting game servers on your own infrastructure. Written in Go, it runs as a single lightweight binary with no heavy runtime dependencies. The architecture separates a central web panel from daemon agents that run on each game server machine; the daemons connect outbound to the panel over gRPC, so no inbound ports are needed on the game server hosts. Through the web UI you can install, start, stop, and configure servers for titles such as Minecraft, Counter-Strike 2, Rust, and GTA V. Features include a live remote console, an in-browser file manager with archive extraction, a task scheduler for automatic restarts and updates, and fine-grained permissions per user and server. Data can be stored in PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, or SQLite. Deployment options include Docker, Docker Compose, and direct binary installs on Linux, Windows, and macOS. The panel has built-in Let's Encrypt support for automatic TLS certificates and a WebAssembly plugin system for extensions.
Should you self-host GameAP?
GameAP scores 51/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #28 of 62 in Game Servers. It has 152 GitHub stars.
It shipped 9 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v4.5.8, came out on 18 October 2026. New versions land roughly every 4 days.
Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is MIT-licensed and written mostly in Go.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is Pelican Panel (64/100, 2 412 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See GameAP vs Pelican Panel side by side.
