docker.io/goinfinite/osWhat is os?
Infinite OS is a self-hosted hosting environment that runs as a single container, giving each project its own lightweight host with a web dashboard, CLI, and REST API. Instead of building custom Docker images, you start the base container and then install PHP, Node.js, Python, Ruby, Java, databases (MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB), and applications like WordPress or n8n from a marketplace. The dashboard provides a web terminal, file manager, cron job scheduler, SSL certificate management, domain mappings, team accounts, and security rules (rate, bandwidth, connection limits). It uses nginx as the internal web server and manages services via a process supervisor. The container is stateful — the filesystem holds all data — and upgrades are handled as migrations. It runs on Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, and GUI tools like Portainer. The project is in beta (v0.3.x) and licensed under EPL-2.0.
Should you self-host os?
os scores 47/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #2 of 5 in Web Hosting. It has 360 GitHub stars.
It shipped 9 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v0.3.5, came out on 12 October 2026. New versions land roughly every 3 weeks.
Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is EPL-2.0-licensed and written mostly in Go.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is 1panel (79/100, 37 298 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See os vs 1panel side by side.
