ghcr.io/bluewave-labs/captureWhat is capture?
Capture is a lightweight hardware monitoring agent designed to run on your servers and collect detailed system metrics including CPU temperature, load, frequency and usage; memory usage; disk capacity, inode usage, and I/O stats; S.M.A.R.T. drive health; network interface throughput; and Docker container metrics. It exposes all data through a RESTful API secured by a bearer token (API_SECRET). The agent is built for Checkmate, an open-source infrastructure monitoring platform, but can be used independently. You can run Capture via Docker (recommended), Docker Compose, Helm on Kubernetes, or as a native system service on Linux (systemd), macOS (launchd), or Windows. Configuration is done through environment variables: API_SECRET (required), PORT (default 59232), and GIN_MODE (default release). The project is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and actively maintained with regular releases.
Should you self-host capture?
capture scores 51/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #8 of 19 in Infrastructure Monitoring. It has 306 GitHub stars.
It shipped 1 stable release in the past year. The latest, v1.4.0, came out on 12 March 2026.
Setup is easy: most people get it running in one sitting. An official Docker image is available. It is AGPL-3.0-licensed and written mostly in Go.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is Beszel (81/100, 26 612 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See capture vs Beszel side by side.
