What is Pterodactyl Wings?

Pterodactyl Wings is the server-side daemon that runs on each node hosting game servers. Written in Go for performance and security, it provides an HTTP API and WebSocket interface for the Pterodactyl Panel to control server lifecycles, fetch logs, generate backups, and manage files via a built-in SFTP server. Each game server runs in a separate Docker container with configurable CPU, memory, I/O, and process limits. Wings is installed as a systemd service on Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL/Rocky/AlmaLinux) and requires Docker. It communicates with the Panel over a signed WebSocket connection (default port 8080) and authenticates users via the same credentials as the Panel. The project is MIT licensed with no paid tiers.
