chenxuan520/roadbookWhat is roadbook?
RoadbookMaker lets users build travel plans on interactive maps by adding markers, connecting them with routes across seven transport modes, and exporting the result as JSON, HTML, ICS calendars, or PNG long-images. It offers multiple map layers including OpenStreetMap, Gaode, Google Maps, and ESRI imagery, plus integrated search across Photon, Nominatim, Overpass, and Chinese providers. An AI assistant can generate multi-day itineraries from natural language prompts when a compatible API key is configured in the self-hosted backend. The app works fully offline using browser localStorage with no account required, or can be self-hosted via Docker, a compiled Go binary behind Nginx, or Cloudflare Workers for cloud synchronization and sharing. Authentication uses JWT with configurable users. Core features require no external API keys.
Should you self-host roadbook?
roadbook scores 36/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #7 of 9 in Mapping & GPS. It has 23 GitHub stars.
It shipped 10 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v0.1.4, came out on 23 March 2026. New versions land roughly every 3 days.
Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is MIT-licensed and written mostly in JavaScript.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is God's Eye View (83/100, 60 810 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See roadbook vs God's Eye View side by side.
