What is jcorp-nomad?
Jcorp Nomad is a pocket-sized media server that runs on an ESP32-S3 board, spins up its own Wi-Fi hotspot (or joins your existing network in WiFi Mode), and streams movies, shows, music, books, comics and photos to any browser — no internet needed. The author started it as a portable, low-cost take on running a Jellyfin server. Firmware 4.6 brings exFAT card support, offline ZIM encyclopedias such as Wikipedia with a PC-built search index, offline maps with routing, in-browser language translation, DLNA serving for TVs, EmulatorJS ROM play including DOOM, two-player games over the local Wi-Fi, a chat page, sidecar subtitles, recipe and 3D-model libraries, a file browser, global search, themes with dark mode, and a login-gated admin panel. To run it you flash the firmware with Arduino IDE or the browser flasher at nomadflash.jcorptech.net, copy the SD card template onto a microSD card, and prepare ZIMs, maps and language packs with the companion Nomad Tools app. A 3D-printable case is included, and prebuilt units are sold, though every device runs the same open-source system. It targets the Waveshare ESP32-S3 board specifically, six to eight simultaneous 480p streams are typical, the project labels itself beta, and offline maps remain slow.
