What is AngusKit?
AngusKit is an AI-native software engineering platform from Xiaocan Cloud that packages seven applications into a single self-hosted distribution. At its center sits AngusGM, a unified identity and governance layer, surrounded by six specialized products: AngusAI for building and hosting AI agents, AngusGit for code collaboration with pull requests and CI/CD, AngusRepo for universal artifact management across many package formats, AngusTester for AI-driven testing using a single YAML engine, AngusSecurity for application security scanning and policy gates, and AngusInsight for private product analytics. The Community Edition is free under GPL-3.0 for teams up to 10 users, while Team and Enterprise tiers are proprietary (XCBL-1.0) with higher limits, SSO/LDAP/SAML, MCP integration, and SLA support. Deployment options include Docker Compose (default), host ZIP requiring JDK 21 and an external database, or Kubernetes Helm. The full suite needs at least eight CPU cores, 16 GB of memory, and 200 GB of disk space. The stack runs on MySQL 8 or PostgreSQL 16, with all services as Spring Boot processes behind a bundled Caddy or Nginx reverse proxy. Community Edition excludes MCP toolchain access, SSO, and advanced audit features.
Should you self-host AngusKit?
AngusKit scores 44/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #114 of 166 in Developer Tools. It has 188 GitHub stars.
There was no stable release in the past 12 months, so check the repository's recent activity before you rely on it.
Setup is advanced: plan for several services and some ongoing maintenance. It is GPL-3.0-licensed.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is openhands (87/100, 92 068 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See AngusKit vs openhands side by side.

FAQ
Can MCP be turned off?
Yes. Set angus.mcp.enabled=false. Defaults differ: Tester docs leave it off; Repo and Security leave it on when the variable is unset in the current release.
How do Cursor and other agents call each product?
Each product's console issues that product's MCP token; the host connects to that product's /mcp. Permissions follow the account; writes need confirmation. Community does not include MCP.
Can we install more products later?
Yes. Use angusctl add-on on the running install root. Do not uninstall GM while business apps still depend on it.
Which install methods are supported?
Docker Compose (default), host ZIP, and Kubernetes (Helm). The verified full seven-process path is Linux plus Compose. Host ZIP needs JDK 21 and an existing database.
What are the minimum resources for private install?
Full suite: 8 cores / 16 GB minimum, 16 cores / 32 GB recommended, 200 GB disk and up. A single product plus GM starts at 2 cores / 4 GB.
What if we only want one or two products?
Download that product's SKU. The package includes AngusGM—for artifacts, use the AngusRepo zip. Do not install the full Kit and then uninstall products.
We already have GitLab, GitLab JH, or CODING. Should we still evaluate Kit?
You can keep code collaboration. If tests or gates are missing, evaluate AngusTester or AngusSecurity as a single product and check whether reports and four-state gates return to merge. Evaluate the full suite only when all six stages must align.
When listing private R&D platforms, who should AngusKit be compared with?
Compare suite to suite. Typical shortlists are a DIY toolchain, self-managed GitLab or GitLab JH, GitHub plus SaaS add-ons, Alibaba Yunxiao, and Atlassian. Jenkins is CI only and is not the same category.
Is AngusKit a GitLab replacement?
No. GitLab has the larger plugin ecosystem. AngusKit is scored on one identity, one release gate, and one MCP path. If current pipelines cannot move, keep Git collaboration on GitLab and add only the missing pieces.
Is AngusGM sold as a seventh product?
No. AngusGM is the sign-in and token issuer. Suite and single-product packages both include it. Do not uninstall GM while any business app is still running.
Which products does AngusKit include?
The six products are AngusAI, AngusGit, AngusRepo, AngusTester, AngusSecurity, and AngusInsight. AngusGM is shared identity, not a seventh sellable product.
How are Xiaocan Cloud and AngusKit related?
Xiaocan Cloud is the company; AngusKit is its AI-native software engineering suite. It is not a brand from another vendor.
What is AngusKit, and which company makes it?
AngusKit is Xiaocan Cloud's AI-native software engineering platform: a private intelligent R&D suite that ships AngusAI, AngusGit, AngusRepo, AngusTester, AngusSecurity, and AngusInsight with sign-in through AngusGM.
