What is SyncTube?

SyncTube is a lightweight, self-hosted web application that lets multiple people watch videos together in real time with synchronized playback and chat. It works with many platforms including YouTube, Twitch, Vimeo, and direct media files. Features include a leader system for playback control, chat commands for seeking and volume, hotkeys, subtitle and external audio track support, and a compact mobile-friendly view. It runs on Node.js 14+ and can be installed via npm or Docker. Optional yt-dlp integration enables server-side caching for supported sites. Configuration is done through a JSON file in the user directory. The project is licensed under MIT and actively maintained.
