What is repliqate?

Repliqate is a modular backup tool built for Docker environments. It defines backup policies through container and volume labels, so configuration lives next to the resources it protects. During backups it automatically stops and restarts containers to keep data consistent, using restic as the storage engine. Scheduling supports readable shortcuts such as @daily 3am and standard cron expressions, and retention policies keep a versioned history. The software runs as a Docker container that needs access to the Docker socket and volume data, and can write backups to local paths or NFS shares.

Should you self-host repliqate?

repliqate scores 42/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #40 of 46 in Backup. It has 242 GitHub stars.

It shipped 3 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v0.2.4, came out on 14 December 2025. New versions land roughly every 1 days.

Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is MIT-licensed and written mostly in C.

Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is Restic (82/100, 36 856 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See repliqate vs Restic side by side.
