What is dockserver?
DockServer is a self-hosted Docker management platform that simplifies running a home server by automating the setup of Traefik as a reverse proxy, Authelia for authentication and single sign-on, and Cloudflare for DNS and TLS. It runs on Ubuntu 22.04 (x86/x64 only) with a minimum of 2 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM, and 20 GB disk. After running a one-line install script, users access a text-based menu (via sudo dockserver -i) to deploy Traefik and Authelia first, then choose from over 100 pre-configured applications across categories like media servers (Jellyfin, Plex, Emby), download clients (qBittorrent, SabNZBD), *arr stack (Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr), backup tools (Restic, Duplicati), and many more. The project builds custom Docker images via a private CI pipeline but does not publish them for external use. Authentication is handled by Authelia with optional TOTP 2FA. Cloudflare is required for DNS, TLS (SSL=FULL), and optional tunnel support. The code is licensed GPL-3.0 and the latest release is v1.4.74.
Should you self-host dockserver?
dockserver scores 45/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #29 of 44 in Container Management. It has 154 GitHub stars.
It shipped 2 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v1.4.74, came out on 11 January 2026. New versions land roughly every 1 days.
Setup is advanced: plan for several services and some ongoing maintenance. It is GPL-3.0-licensed and written mostly in Shell.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is Portainer (77/100, 38 736 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See dockserver vs Portainer side by side.
