What is ComiGo?

ComiGo is a self-hosted comic and manga reader that runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS. It supports multiple formats including CBZ, CBR, ZIP, RAR, EPUB, PDF, and image folders. The reader provides a web-based interface with scroll and page-turn modes, PWA support for offline reading in the browser, and reading progress synchronization across devices via WebSocket/SSE. It includes a plugin system for extensions like auto page-turn and clock. Deployment options include Docker, Docker Compose, standalone binaries for all major platforms, and Debian/Ubuntu packages. The CLI version (comi) is designed for server deployment and automation. Remote libraries are supported via WebDAV, SMB, SFTP, S3, FTP, and other ComiGo instances. Authentication uses username/password with JWT cookies, and TLS/Let's Encrypt is supported. OPDS 1.2 allows integration with e-book clients.

Should you self-host ComiGo?

ComiGo scores 51/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #4 of 19 in Ebook Management. It has 385 GitHub stars.

It shipped 9 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v1.3.9, came out on 23 October 2026. New versions land roughly every 2 weeks.

Setup is easy: most people get it running in one sitting. An official Docker image is available. It is MIT-licensed and written mostly in Go.

Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is Calibre (83/100, 26 267 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See ComiGo vs Calibre side by side.

ComiGo releases & version history

FAQ

How do I report a problem?

Inspect live logs in Settings or enable --debug. Remove private data, then open a GitHub issue with version, platform, startup command, and reproduction steps.

Why is release history absent?

The manual describes current behavior only. See GitHub Releases and commit history for version changes.

Does clearing cache delete source books?

No. Delete book cache removes metadata and cache only. Desktop has a separate confirmed action to move eligible local source files to OS trash; other builds don't provide this.

Why is a remote library slow?

First scan reads directories and metadata; cache improves repeat reads. Longer timeout only tolerates slow connections. Remote PDFs download on demand. Remote ComiGo is better for cross-network use.

ZIP filenames are garbled

Try --zip-encode gbk or --zip-encode shiftjis, or set ZipFileTextEncoding. Converting archive filenames to UTF-8 at the source is the most reliable fix.

Why do assets return 404 behind a proxy?

The proxy path and --base-path must match. External /comics/ requires --base-path /comics. Forward WebSocket and SSE, and avoid adding the prefix twice.

Why can my phone not connect?

Use the LAN address shown in the QR code or printed by ComiGo, not localhost. Ensure the port is allowed through the firewall. The --local flag intentionally blocks external devices.

Why is a book missing?

Check that the path exists, verify MaxScanDepth, MinImageNum, ExcludePath settings, and supported extensions. Container paths must be mounted correctly. Rescan after changes.
