ghcr.io/roocodeinc/roomote-appWhat is Roomote?
Roomote is a self-hosted AI coding agent that runs on your own servers. It connects to chat platforms like Slack, Teams, Discord, and Telegram, and works with Git hosting services including GitHub, GitLab, and others. You assign it a task — for example, repair a broken API endpoint — and it spins up a temporary sandbox (choosing from Modal, E2B, Daytona, Blaxel, or local Docker), clones your repository, writes the fix, runs the test suite, captures a screenshot, and opens a pull request with a live preview URL. You then review the changes as you would any colleague's pull request.
For language models, you can supply API keys from many providers or link your existing ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription to use its included models. A web dashboard lets the whole team track sessions, examine task results, and configure integrations. The agent also plugs into over 30 external tools — Sentry, Grafana, Notion, Linear, Jira, PostHog, Asana, and more — so it can pull logs, dashboards, and documentation automatically. Multiple agents can operate in parallel across different repositories, they adapt to your codebase patterns over time, and every model invocation and tool call is recorded for auditing.
Running it yourself is free for up to ten users; bigger teams purchase a license via Roomote Cloud. The software uses a source-available license that converts to Apache 2.0 two years after each release. Deployment options include a single-command installer for Ubuntu or Debian, Docker Compose, Railway, Render, Coolify, and Fly.io.
Should you self-host Roomote?
Roomote scores 48/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #52 of 120 in AI Assistant. It has 315 GitHub stars.
It shipped 10 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v1.19.4, came out on 27 October 2026. New versions land roughly every 1 days.
Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is Other-licensed and written mostly in Typescript.
Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is CORE (52/100, 2 005 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See Roomote vs CORE side by side.

FAQ
Can non-engineers use it?
Yes. PMs, support, ops, and marketers can assign tasks in Slack without touching code. Example: "Fix the typo on the pricing page" works.
I already pay for ChatGPT Plus. Do I need an API key too?
No. Connect your ChatGPT account and you can start using Roomote immediately. API keys are an alternative for people who want to use other providers or control costs at the token level.
What does it cost?
Self-hosting is free for up to 10 registered users. You pay your own model provider for tokens (or use ChatGPT subscription models). Cloud starts at $49/mo. For 11–100 users, buy a self-hosted license on Roomote Cloud. For larger teams, email help@roomote.dev.
What repos can it access?
GitHub, GitLab, Gitea, Azure DevOps, and Bitbucket Cloud. Connect one or many.
What sandboxes does it support?
Modal, E2B, Daytona, Blaxel, and Local Docker.
What models does it support?
Two options: connect your ChatGPT Plus/Pro subscription directly (no API key needed), or paste an API key from OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, Google Gemini, Amazon Bedrock, Vercel AI Gateway, Baseten, Together AI, Moonshot AI (Kimi), Kimi for Coding, MiniMax, Z.AI, OpenCode Zen/Go, or GitHub Copilot.
How is this different from Devin?
Devin is a closed, hosted product. Roomote is source-available and self-hostable. You own your data, use your existing ChatGPT subscription or bring your own API keys, and pick your models. You can read every line of code it runs.
Can I use Roomote from my existing coding agent?
Yes. Connect any OAuth-capable MCP client (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) to your Roomote deployment to start and continue sessions or inspect and steer delegated tasks without switching tools.
How is this different from Cursor / Copilot / Claude Code?
Those are IDE tools that help you write code faster in your editor. Roomote is a cloud agent: you start a session, it delegates execution when needed, and you come back to a PR. It does not require an IDE or terminal session.
Is Roomote open source?
Roomote is source-available under the Fair Core License 1.0 (FCL-1.0-ALv2). You can read, modify, and self-host the code. Free for up to 10 users. Larger deployments need a license. After the license period, the code converts to Apache 2.0.
