What is Quasarr?

Quasarr connects JDownloader 2 with the *arr ecosystem (Radarr, Sonarr, Lidarr, Magazarr) and Prowlarr by pretending to be both a Newznab indexer and a SABnzbd download client. It handles CAPTCHA-protected links through a browser-based Tampermonkey userscript flow, with an optional SponsorsHelper Docker image for automated solving (requires active GitHub sponsorship). The web UI provides category management, download mirror whitelists, search hostname whitelists, and notification integrations for Discord and Telegram. It runs as a Docker container (ghcr.io/rix1337/quasarr) or via Python 3.12+ with uv, requiring an INTERNAL_ADDRESS for *arr connectivity and optional authentication via form login or HTTP Basic Auth. The project is actively maintained with regular releases.

Should you self-host Quasarr?

Quasarr scores 45/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #34 of 45 in Download Management. It has 167 GitHub stars.

It shipped 20 stable releases in the past year. The latest, v.4.7.8, came out on 26 October 2026. New versions land roughly every 2 days.

Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is MIT-licensed and written mostly in Python.

Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is cobalt (83/100, 45 584 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See Quasarr vs cobalt side by side.
