What is docker?

Akaunting is accounting software built for small businesses and freelancers. It handles invoicing, expense tracking, banking, reporting, and multi-currency needs through a modular system with an app store for extensions. The stack uses Laravel, Vue.js, and Tailwind CSS, and exposes a RESTful API. You can self-host it using official Docker images on Docker Hub with several docker-compose setups (standard, FPM with Nginx proxy, Alpine variants). A MariaDB/MySQL database is required; Redis is optional for caching, sessions, and queues. The license is Business Source License 1.1, which converts to GPLv3 after four years, and limits free production use to a small number of users, a single organization, or a capped invoice count unless you buy a commercial license.

Should you self-host docker?

docker scores 52/100 on selfhost.directory (how scoring works) and ranks #5 of 11 in Accounting. It has 244 GitHub stars.

There was no stable release in the past 12 months, so check the repository's recent activity before you rely on it.

Setup is moderate: expect some configuration beyond a single command. An official Docker image is available. It is GPL-3.0-licensed and written mostly in Dockerfile.

Its closest alternative on selfhost.directory is akaunting (67/100, 10 240 stars). It scores higher overall, so compare the two before you pick. See docker vs akaunting side by side.
