What is Bisq 2?
Bisq 2 is the successor to the original Bisq decentralized exchange, designed as a desktop application that users run on their own computers (Windows, macOS, Linux). It enables peer-to-peer bitcoin trading for fiat or other cryptocurrencies without requiring identity verification or registration. The initial release includes the Bisq Easy protocol, which uses a chat-based interface and seller reputation to simplify onboarding for new Bitcoin users. The software connects via Tor (and optionally I2P) to a gossip-based P2P network, with seed nodes operated by contributors. Users can download pre-built installers (.exe, .dmg, .deb, .rpm) or build from source using Gradle and JDK 21. A headless seed-node component is also available for those who want to run network infrastructure. The project is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and operates as a DAO with compensated contributors.
