## Description

Uwazi is a flexible, web-based database application developed by HURIDOCS for capturing, organizing, analyzing, and sharing collections of documents and information. Originally built for human rights documentation, it serves NGOs, journalists, researchers, archivists, and educators who need to manage structured document collections. Key capabilities include custom templates and properties for data modeling, full-text and PDF search with faceted filters, PDF metadata extraction via ML models, automatic translation across 180+ languages, map and card visualizations, role-based access control at the record level, public entity pages for publishing, CSV import/export, and a RESTful API. The platform integrates with the Tella mobile app for offline data collection in risky environments. Self-hosting is free under the MIT license, requiring Node.js 20, ElasticSearch 8.18, MongoDB 7.0 (as a replica set), Redis, PostgreSQL, and MinIO/S3 storage, with Docker Compose provided for infrastructure dependencies. The application runs on port 3000 by default. Managed hosting tiers are available for organizations preferring a hosted solution.
