Stoneforge installs as a global npm package and runs locally in any project, providing a web dashboard at localhost:3457. It coordinates multiple AI agents — a Director that plans work, ephemeral Workers that execute tasks in isolated git worktrees, and Stewards that handle merge review. Key capabilities include dependency-aware task dispatch, automatic merge review with test execution, real-time agent communication via channels and threads, Linear-like issue tracking with kanban views, searchable document libraries with version history, and structured workflows that resume from failure points. It supports three major AI coding tools as underlying providers. Stoneforge uses a dual storage model with SQLite as a query cache and JSONL as the git-tracked source of truth. The project is early-stage and experimental, with high token consumption and autonomous agent execution by design.
