## Description

peerd is a Manifest V3 browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that embeds a general-purpose AI agent directly in the browser. The agent reads and controls your tabs, web apps, and active sessions. It provides local compute through JavaScript notebooks, WASI-compiled tools, and full Linux VMs running in WebAssembly via CheerpX (with v86 migration planned). Users bring their own API keys for cloud providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, and Z.ai, or run models locally via Ollama or on-device WebGPU inference. A preview peer-to-peer layer uses WebRTC for agent-to-agent discovery, signed workflow sharing, and private messaging without a central server. The security model relies on browser isolation: separate actors per environment, a single egress chokepoint with allowlist/denylist, and credential isolation where API keys never leave the service worker. Installation is via loading the unpacked extension directory in developer mode, or using signed preview builds from GitHub Releases. The project is Apache 2.0 licensed, currently in v0.x developer preview, with official store listings planned.
