## Description

NorthCinder is an open-source MCP server that lets your own AI assistant shop on your behalf while all of it runs on hardware you control. It queries the store connections you enable, orders offers with a published deterministic weighting, and normally surfaces three finalists at most: the best match, a safer pick, and a cheaper or genuinely different alternative. Every result explains its placement, and the rejected offers plus unverifiable facts stay visible. Merchant trust comes from documented rules about platform hosting, domain age and traffic rank, paid placement is labeled and demoted, and a store that could not be reached is reported as a gap. Nothing gets bought without a person agreeing first: each order needs a fresh single-use signed approval covering the seller, the exact variant, the price and a spending ceiling, and raw card numbers are refused. Setup is local — the initializer writes buyer-owned configuration and starts the MCP server together with the search engine in one process on an ephemeral loopback port, with a local trail of every suggestion and purchase decision. Advanced users may instead run the engine as its own authenticated service over HTTPS using bearer keys. Native adapters exist for Shopify, WooCommerce, eBay, Etsy and read-only Amazon comparison; where one is missing, your agent can feed in normalized browser observations. The project is pre-1.0 and candid about limits — adapter tests rely on fixtures rather than live accounts, and it says no host and model pairing is qualified for routine research use.
