## Description

FreeLingo teaches languages through structured CEFR curricula from beginner to advanced. A placement test sets your level, then the app builds a weekly plan with lessons covering language fundamentals, word study, comprehension, composition, and recap sessions. The AI tutor Lingu chats in text and voice, remembers facts you tell it, and generates listening and reading exercises matched to your level. You practice pronunciation in real-time voice conversations, review words with SM-2 spaced-repetition flashcards, and play games like Error Detective. Nine languages are supported. The stack runs on Docker Compose with a FastAPI backend, Next.js frontend, PostgreSQL, and Redis. You can use local models via Ollama or cloud APIs from OpenAI, Anthropic, or DeepSeek. Speech uses local Kokoro and faster-whisper or OpenAI's APIs. A hosted version exists with free and paid plans. Self-hosting is free under AGPL-3.0; a commercial license is available for organizations.
